Flexible working

We offer a flexi time scheme and accommodate flexible working arrangement requests where these are feasible in the business. This may include a Job Share option for full time positions.

Leave entitlement

We offer 23 days annual leave entitlement, with increases for 5 years and 10 years continuous service up to 30.5 days. Employees can also request to buy up to 10 days additional leave (pro rata for part time) in a way that evens out the financial consequences by spreading that cost over 12 months.

We also have Adoption, Paternity and Parental Leave Schemes that support all our staff including those in same sex relationships.  Special leave for bereavement, compassion, statutory duties can also be requested, as well as longer career breaks.

Leisure facilities, local resturants, shops and entertainment

Employees can benefit from a 50% reduction on charges to use the pool and fitness studio at the Dolphin Swimming Pool and to use the pool and fitness studio at the Rossmore Leisure Centre and the Fitness Studio at Ashdown Leisure Centre every day.

Reductions on some purchases are also available at the Council’s Poole Museum and at the Tourism Information Centre.

Online and telephone shopping

Employees are issued with a BoP Benefits Card on commencement of employment. This offers specially selected products and services giving money saving discounts and extra value on special and everyday purchases.


Employees are automatically admitted to the Local Government Pension Scheme (or other pension scheme if applicable to the post) but they may then choose to opt out.  The Local Government Pension Scheme remains among the best occupational pension schemes that is still widely available. Although no longer based on final salary, it is still a defined benefits scheme rather than one leading to the purchase of an annuity. Percentage levels of payment into the scheme are based on salary earned by individual scheme members. There is also a 50% payment option available. Full details of the scheme are sent to employees on commencement of employment.

Bikes for Work

Borough of Poole has partnered with Cyclescheme to purchase bikes though a salary sacrifice scheme. Facilities including showers and a lock up cycle cage are available at the Civic Centre for those who choose to cycle.

Charities, “Give as you Earn” and “Pennies From Heaven”

You can arrange to make a contribution to your favourite charity by automatic deduction from your salary. Even a small donation on a regular basis can be put to effective use. Tax does not currently apply on the value of your donation. 

All Borough of Poole employees are automatically enrolled (unless they opt out) in the Pennies from Heaven Scheme which allows employees to donate the spare pennies from their salary each month to worthy causes.
