Temps at Poole

Our professional temporary staffing scheme supplies high quality staff on short and long term placements to support our Service Units and Schools.

Becoming a Borough of Poole temp is a great opportunity to increase your skills and experience and work in different areas across the Council.

How can I register as a temp?

You can apply online through www.jobsatpoole.com  when the advert is open. You will be assessed for suitability through:

  • Interview
  • Skills testing (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Reference checking
  • Medical clearance
  • DBS check if appropriate to the placement you have been offered.

If the advert is closed, you can set an alert so when the advert is live again you will receive an email. This can be done from the www.jobsatpoole.com home page.

How do the placements work?

Once accepted onto the scheme, you will be offered available placements to match your skills, abilities and availability.   If you accept a placement, we expect you to be reliable and adaptable, as you will play an important role within the Borough of Poole.

You will be able to apply for our internal job vacancies when you are currently working within a placement and many of our temps find permanent employment through the scheme.

Will I be working regularly?

Whilst steady work cannot be guaranteed, the schemes are well established, with high numbers of temps working each week. The more flexible you can be with hours of availability the more work you will be offered. We have more full time placements than part time.

How much will I be paid?

We have three levels of payment which are hourly rates of:

    • £8.50
    • £8.62
    • £8.74

    Initial level of pay is dependent on the level of work you are offered on a placement. If after 12 weeks you are covering a full role in the council, you may be offered more in line with the grade of the job.

    General temps

    We do have limited placements for general temps who may work on projects such as filing, scanning and indexing which are suitable for candidates with limited experience. However, work in these placements is more sporadic.

    Office temps

    Our office temps ideally need experience/qualifications in word processing and a range of information technology. Competency in use of spreadsheets, databases, presentation software and the Internet are highly recommended.

    Higher level office skills

    Subject to placement requirement, skills such as taking minutes, electronic diary management, event management and PA experience are paid at a higher rate.

    Specialised temps

    Occasionally we need temps with specific skills and these will be advertised on jobsatpoole.com. This include specific business skills such as web technologies or legal experience. These skills will be requested by advert on jobsatpoole.com.
